What is a phakic lens?
A phakic lens is a type of contact lens that is placed over the cornea, in front of the iris (the colored part of the eye).
Phakic lens implant surgery in Lahore is done with two types of lenses: intraocular lenses (IOLs) and posterior chamber lenses (PCLs).
IOLs phakic lens implant surgery places the lens inside the eye, in front of the iris, and is held in place by the eye's natural lens.
Whereas, a phakic lens implant doctor in Lahore places PCLs behind the iris, in the posterior chamber of the eye.
Why Phakic lens become mandatory?
Phakic lens implant surgery is used to correct vision problems that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. They are also used to treat certain eye conditions, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyper myopia, and Astigmatism.
Let me tell you, Phakic lenses are not for everyone! They are usually only considered for people who have severe vision problems and who have not had success with other forms of vision correction.
However, these lenses are not permanent. Since they are made of plastic or silicone, they will need to be removed and replaced every few years by a phakic lens specialist, to avoid infection.
Signs and Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of a phakic eye condition can be diagnosed via eye examination. The ophthalmologist usually conducts a comprehensive eye examination. This may also include some diagnostic tests.
The eye exam will begin with visual acuity and other test involved in the eye examination. After the complete evaluation, the doctor would be able to tell if the eye problem can be treated in some other way, or if you need a phakic lens to overcome vision problems.
As the name suggests, Phakic lens stands for "fake lens". Thus it is performed by placing a false lens into the eye.
Depending on the condition of the eye problem the signs and symptoms vary from person to person. The most common symptom is that the situation does not become better with any other treatment applied.
Treatment Process:
The basis of the phakic lens treatment is the placement of a contact lens on the eye. The contact lens is specially designed to correct refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
The phakic lens is placed over the eye's natural lens. It is held in place by the eye's pressure.
Phakic lens treatment can be done on an outpatient basis. The procedure usually takes less than an hour.
After the procedure, you will need to wear sunglasses or a protective covering over your eyes. You will also need to use eye drops to help prevent infection.
You will need to see your doctor for regular follow-up appointments.
